Save the date – 28 November! The AUS-X OPEN is the ideal event to be if you’re really into supercross racing. From freestyles (BMX) to two wheel acrobatics, the best action sports athletes in this field will be coming to Sydney. 

 

The globe’s hottest names will be at the AIlPhones Arena for a couple of adrenaline infused nights of racing, including the Best Trick FMX.  Unscripted, mayhem and extreme at its best is the only way to describe the event.  As this is his first time to hit Australia, World Supercross Champ, Chad Reed, goes in a serious head-to-head-meets-bike competition with the fastest guy on the planet, James Stewart. 

The Best Trick competition is the only current FXM competition on the planet. Only the crème de la crème of experts will attempt to make history with stunts that will be something you can never un-see again.

Take into account that on both November 28 and 29, you can also win prizes, ranging up to $100,000.

Sculpture By The Sea in Sydney

Thinking of heading to NSW later this year? Then you need to plan it so you’re in the city between 22 October and 8 November when Sculpture by the Sea is featured. This annual, free (yes free) outdoor sculpture exhibition at Bondi is returning for its 19^th year. 

 

As one of the city’s most imaginative and adored events, the Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk radius is magically transformed into a 2km sculpture park. With over 100 temporary sculptures by Aussie and global artists, it’s a must see.

Community arts in Sydney are a big deal. There are great events such as Opera in the Park, Symphony Under the Stars and a multitude of charity festivals throughout the year. The organizers of the Sculpture exhibition decided there was a need for a new type of visual art. Inspired by Prague’s architecture, the founders took a walk down Bondi to Tamarama and simply saw that the space could be used to promote this alternative style of inspiration. Rallying a team together, the idea came to life and nearly two decades later, it’s a stunning fixture in the city’s thriving creative arena. 

Miraculously, creating the first event only had a $11,000 budget. Even though this amount was insanely tight, over the years, ore industry influencers have seen the value of this exhibition and injected cash and elbow grease into making it thrive larger every 12 months. As David Handley, Founding Director, confirms, it’s been an ‘exciting, frightening and busy time.’

So if you’re a local, you must check this exhibition. If you’re a business traveler and want to show your clients something unique, then head on down and take a look. For all leisure travelers, you know that seeing something so rare is a must view. 

The beauty of the event is that if you fall in love with a sculpture, it’s most likely for sale. The website provides more information about who to contact, alongside the images from prior exhibitions. Maybe something you love on the website is still up for grabs? The prices aren’t listed but take into account that some of the artists are serious up and comers, so the rates may be reasonable.

All Aboard Dragons Abreast in October

If you’re heading to Sydney or will be in the area on the 24^th October, make sure you’re free from 8am – 3pm at Darling Harbour. On this glorious weather (we hope) day, the annual Dragons Abreast Australia Dragon Boat Festival takes place. Yes, this title is hefty but nowhere near as big as their objective as a fundraiser for raising breast cancer awareness.

 

With dragon boat racing as the main attraction, participators include Dragons Abreast Australia charity organization and a fluffy of hospitals, medical corporations...and hopefully you. All you need to do between now and October is find friends, rally a crew together (min 16 – max 26) and take part in the fastest growing water sport charity fundraiser. 

Something to warm your cockles while you get ready for Cockle Bay on this fundraiser Saturday is that $22+k has been raised so far for awareness. Since registration is now open, this is the time to pull together a crew for the race. Maybe you’re visiting Sydney on business – then team together your clients and colleagues as part of the race. If you’ve bouncing over to NSW on a social trip, post on their Dragons Abreast Festival Facebook page you’re heading to the city and want to team with locals. Alternatively, you can join an existing team that’s registered on the website. Go to the team registration page, register and you will be provided a sure bet team to rally with. 

Since the minimum donation is $50 AUD, not only will you be supporting an incredibly important charity but you’ll also gain that upper body strength that all things water sports guarantee.

Various ways to fundraise include socially promoting your dedicated url page and remember to use this hashtag #daaconvention when you tweet.  Alternatively, set up a swear box at home, the local bar or at work and see the money roll in at the speed of light.  If you’re more civilized, then host a pot luck game night party. Everyone brings a board game and a dish/side dish and if you lose any game, you must donate $20 to the charity fund.

Since Cremorne Point Manor is a short ferry ride from Darling Harbour, what better way to wind down after boating all day, than being ‘chauffeur’ driven back to our boutique hotel.  You can have a glass of vino and recap the day’s activities, while you overlook the Harbour.
