Sydney Fringe Festival Arrives in September

From the 1^st – 30^th September, the sixth annual Sydney Fringe Festival rears its head again for a month of entertainment. The largest independent arts series of gigs in the city, it’s strategically scattered around five villages and hosts a walloping 300 productions within 50 venues. 

 

This year, the Festival will also spill onto the streets of NSW so expect to see live performances in random places. It’s designed to keep you on your creative toes nightly as secret city venues will be adoring you with culture, arts and crafts. From pop up spaces, street activations and shop fronts – they’ll be in your face like white on rice and you will applaud and cheer them on until you burst with adrenaline.

If you’re truly looking to be in the thick of the action, there are volunteer and internship opportunities from hands-on-help to social media assistance. So if tweeting, posting, Instagramming and Snapchatting is up your alley, then check the current opportunities available in the ‘about us’ website section.

Ticketing details are not currently available to purchase online, yet you can contact the ‘ticketing’ web section to enquire. Or follow the @sydneyfringe Twitter account for real time updates so you can grab seats (or standing) tickets.  Also remember to use #sydneyfringe leading up to the Festival and during the September shenanigans while you tag comments, post videos, meddle with Vines and upload pictures so you have the chance of being retweeted and receive your social 5 seconds of fame.

For all budding artists, the Fringe Festival greatly supports your creativity so contact the organizers to discuss matching your talents to the right venue, whether you’re established or emerging. There’s also an Awards system judged by an industry panel and an 8-Part Workshop Education Series if you’re a serious newbie to the arts scene. Row Row Row Your Boat – to Sydney

Since 1968, the Sydney International Boat Show is one of the southern hemisphere’s most popular boating attractions, for visitors and locals alike. Remember to mark the 30 July through 3 August in your calendar when this event returns to NSW. 

 

Taking place around the Sydney Harbour, the show will focus on entertainment, education and new technology that is pioneering the industry.  From 10am to 8pm on all days, the Cockle Bay Marina (Darling Harbour) and Sydney Exhibition Centre (Glebe Island) are the prime destinations.  From here, you can learn about Marine Rescue, Boating Safety and Surf Life Saving from an educational view point. 

If entertainment is more up your alley, there is a Master Class Schedule that includes an 11am Better Boating with David Lockwood, followed by Tim Simpson’s Fishing For Beginners.  Musto Fashion at 1pm takes you through the history of outdoor sailing clothing followed by a well needed 1.30pm Cooking Master Class. This is hosted by Club Marine’s Bark Beek so make sure you’re ready for bites of his expertise in sea-related culinary know how.  An hour later, enjoy the Cruising Helmsman Hour hosted by Phil Ross and Roger McMillan. Their sailing expert tips will provide information on the best cruising destinations so if you’re up for ‘all aboard’ knowledge, this session will be entertaining.

When you think you maybe can’t eat enough, at 3.30pm, Tim Simpson returns for his Fishing with Lures that Work. This is an ideal seminar for anyone who’s truly interested in Nemo and would like more insights as to proudly claiming their catch of the day.  With another Musto Fashion session, followed by Classic Catches, the seminar finale at 6pm demonstrates a one hour of Bark Beek returning to the stage, with his Master Class. 

There are over 200 businesses who are exhibiting in the arenas and with vessels on the Marina so keep an eye on the ‘What To See’ page of exhibitors, brands and vessels. 

Ticket prices range at $21 for over 18 year olds (Adults) to $13 for 6-17 year olds. A family pass of 2 adults and 3 kids runs at $49, with Adult 3 day passes at $40 or 2 day passes at $30. Concessions are provided for seniors.

Since Cremorne Point is only a short ferry ride away from the event, you can sail off into the sunset towards Cremorne Point Manor each evening. With the best views of the Harbour from our hotel, it’s no wonder we’ve just received our fifth consecutive Certificate of Excellence by Tripadvisor. And yes, we’re fishing for compliments so comment away!

Motorsports V8 Returns to Sydney

If you’re planning to visit NSW on a leisure or business trip, we highly advise you schedule your travels so you can attend the V8 Supercars event between 21 and 23 August.  There are two adrenaline charged 60km races on the Saturday and a slam-speed 200km race on the Sunday. It’s an ideal way to spend a weekend if you’re entertaining business clients, right?

 

The event is choc-full of schedule activities with the Porsche Carrera Cup adding to the zap and bling of this highly anticipated event. As a rare treat, the FIA sanctioned CAMS Australian Formula 4 Championship will be featured – a first ever for NSW.

If you’re in the extreme need to splash out, you can take an aerial tour of the Motorsport Park and view the racing from high up in the sky. The rides are situated in the hill near Main Entrance A and will be offering rides on both days (all details featured on the V8 website).

Since 1990, the premier touring car race was only 500km with slow entry speeds yet now, this event attracts thousands of visitors with multi viewing spots.  As this is the 25^th Anniversary of the Sydney Motorsport Park, we expect both days to be packed with attendees: local, national and global. 

Kids under 12 years old will receive free trackside admissions when accompanied with a paying adult. The prices range for grandstand, paddock passes, trackside, hospitality and park & view from $30.58 AUD and upwards. A 3 day paddock pass sells for a reasonable $61.17 right down to a one day (Friday) pass at $19.37 – designed to not melt your credit card. 

The full event schedule is still being set so you’ll have to keep checking their website for details but expect to see some gems in the lineup, racing towards the finish line. These include Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia) to Mark Winterbottom (Pepsi Max Crew) and Mike Caruso (Nissan Motorsport) amongst the 25 confirmed already.

The venue is around a 45 minute drive, east of Cremorne Point and our boutique Sydney hotel.
